When you first glance at Fez, you may think that it's a normal 2D platformer. However, taking a closer look, you'll discover a much deeper game. Fez seems to be a combination of 2D platforming and puzzle solving. The puzzle solving comes through the platforming. You're able to turn the camera view of the game which will open up different exploration options. So technically it's a 3D platformer, except your character will never actually be able to use the z-axis. As seen in the video below, you turn the camera angle to reach higher platforms which you wouldn't have been reached in the previous camera angle. You can turn the camera a full 360 degrees but it locks every 90 degrees to keep that classic 2D platformer style.

Like most 2D platformers, it doesn't seem like there is much focus to the story. The main focus of the game seems to be using the camera angles to reach your destinations, while collecting items and talking to other NPCs on the way. Fez is being developed by Kokoromi, who are based in Montreal. Kokoromi focuses on experimental gameplay and is trying to create games as an art form.
